This Privacy Notice describes how The Movement Cooperative (“TMC”) and The Movement Institute Fund (“TMIF”) collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your personal information with respect to your use of our website (movementcooperative.org), when you attend any of our events, volunteer or apply for a job with us, or make a donation to us.

TMC is the executor of the strategy, planning, and mission of The Movement Institute Fund. The Movement Institute Fund is a fund of Tides Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Whenever you engage with us in any of these activities, you acknowledge, accept, and consent to the collection, use, management, and disclosure of your personal information as set forth in this Notice subject to applicable law. We may revise this Privacy Notice periodically and will let you know of any changes by posting a revised Notice on our website with a new effective date.

Information We Collect

We collect the following types of information, depending on how you are engaging with us and the data may come directly from you, and/or indirectly from third parties that provide it to us:

  • Personal or individual identifiers. We may collect information that identifies you directly, should you choose to provide it to us. This includes name, mailing address, email address, phone number, birthday, bank account number, credit card number, debit card number, signature, and professional/employment-related information (when applying for a job, volunteering or as required for reporting purposes). Requests to remain anonymous shall be honored to the extent permitted by law.

  • Information you wish to share such as questions, comments, suggestions and how you heard about us.

  • Internet or device activity. Information regarding how you interact with our website including browsing history, advertisements, devices and device identifiers, browser information, device ID, IP and MAC address or information that could be derived from it, and/or preferences you may have for how we communicate with you. The Movement Cooperative and authorized third parties with whom we contract may use technologies to automatically receive and record information when you interact with us online on our websites and/or through other digital technologies, such as email platforms, mobile applications, or over the phone. These technologies allow us to improve our digital services, create a better experience for our users, and protect against fraud.

  • Audio or visual data. We may collect your image or voice, which may be captured when you attend an in-person or virtual event or activity, or leave us a voicemail.

  • Other Information. We collect feedback or information you provide to us, such as in answers to surveys and questionnaires.

  • Inferences from collected data. We may draw inferences about you based on the data we have collected.

  • Information from cookies and similar technologies. We use cookies, pixels, web beacons, and other technologies to analyze our site usage, enhance our website, engage with potential supporters of our mission, and to enable certain services. How We Use Personal Data

We may use your personal information in the following ways, including to:

  • Ensure we are able to contact you and to manage our relationship, such as by responding to your inquiries, acknowledging your donations, informing you of upcoming fundraising or other activities of The Movement Cooperative, keeping you up to date with reports and newsletters, or provide you with employment or volunteer information;

  • Process donations and purchase transactions (Note that all access to donor financial information is strictly limited to professional staff who need to process that data);

  • Prevent and protect against fraud and other risks, and to ensure the security of our website and systems;

  • Provide you the information, services, or opportunities you request;

  • Perform analytics concerning your use of our website;

  • Provide you tailored content and marketing messages, including fundraising and other related messaging;

  • Operate, evaluate, and improve our programs and services and campaigns; conduct surveys and questionnaires; perform data analytics, accounting, auditing, recordkeeping and other internal functions;

  • Support the growth of our community and financial donor base, including through targeted fundraising activities;

  • Report to relevant U.S. and State agencies as required by law;

  • Comply with applicable legal requirements, contractual obligations, and our policies;

  • Perform our contractual obligations, and for any other purposes that you consent to, or that we may specifically disclose at the time you provide or we collect your information.

We may also use data that we collect on an aggregate or anonymous basis (meaning it does not identify you or any specific individual(s)) for various purposes, where permissible under applicable law, to help deliver our services and content to advance our mission and for other related purposes. When required by applicable law, we will ask for your consent before using your personal information for new or unrelated purposes.

Sharing of Personal Data

We may share your information with our affiliated entities and fiscal sponsors, contracted vendors, third parties, and other service providers for the purpose of supporting our activities and programs. For example, we may share information with vendors that help us manage donor data and mailing lists, process donations and credit card payments, and manage communications. We also disclose information as required by law, such as to comply with applicable law or respond to valid legal process, including from law enforcement or other government agencies. We may also disclose information to conduct litigation; in an emergency, to protect The Movement Cooperative’s legal rights or to prevent physical harm to its staff, visitors or the public; to prevent, detect, investigate or remediate fraud, security or privacy issues; to enforce our agreements, terms, and policies.

In the event of an acquisition, dissolution, bankruptcy, or reorganization of The Movement Cooperative, sale of our assets or any diligence relating thereto, your information may be sold or transferred to another organization as permitted by law, contract, or as a standalone asset.

We use the following types of cookies, pixels and tracking technologies:

  • Essential/Functional Cookies: These cookies are necessary for the website to function properly. They enable basic functions like page navigation and access to secure areas of the website.

  • Analytics Cookies: We use Google Analytics to collect information about how visitors use our website, such as the pages they visit most frequently. This helps us improve our site and your experience.

We retain personal information only for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes for which it was collected, including any legal, contractual, compliance, tax, accounting, or reporting requirements.

Please note that your exercise of these rights is subject to certain exceptions and limitations that may apply to restrict the scope of a given right and our ability to respond to a given request. We may have to verify your identity in connection with any request related to exercising these rights to help ensure that we provide the information we maintain to the individuals to whom it relates and allow only those individuals or their authorized representatives to exercise these rights. We also have the right to take into account the interests of others in responding to any request. We may charge a reasonable fee for processing if your request is clearly unfounded, repetitive, or excessive. If we determine your request warrants a fee, we will notify you of the fee and explain that decision before completing your request.

If you exercise one of your privacy rights and we are unable to process your request, we will provide you with an explanation as to why the request was denied. Depending on your state of residence, the explanation will include information on how to appeal, including the relevant regulatory authorities, as applicable.
